I just came across this adorable blog of a girl in Utah who finds vintage pieces of furniture and fixes them up in the most darling way. I especially love the children's furniture. I've always wanted to fill my little kids' rooms with nice wooden toys and pieces like this. Keep an eye out, as she says she'll be posting a lot more soon!
Saturdays are my favorite days because Sydney and I get Daddy all to ourselves! Yesterday was extra special because he planned a picnic in the park. We ate sandwiches and grapes, threw a baseball around, and just sat around, lazily enjoying the warm rays of the sun. Here's a little peek into our outing:
We've been setting up my studio upstairs in our new house. It's a nice long room with a big closet, so it's perfect for my backdrops, lighting kit and, best of all, lots of cool props! I've been collecting all kinds of pieces of furniture and old antique knicknacks that I love. Like this old velvety armchair from D.I. for 30 bucks! Some items I have to pursuade Tommy on because he doesn't see them quite like I do. But he's very supportive overall, considering the collection of stuff I've been piling into the house! Keep an eye out as I post more treasures. :)
Sydney sleeps in the upstairs bathroom because there aren't any blinds in the house. But she doesn't complain much. In fact, whenever I walk in after she wakes up from a nap, I'm greeted by smiles and lovely chirps. I wish everyone could be greeted by such a perky girl! My dad used to chant, "nappy nappy makes me happy..." to my little siblings when trying to get them to sleep. It would get them even more cranky, but it is so true.
Thanks, Malinda, for helping me put Sydney on such a great schedule!

I wanted it to look like this:
We finally have a dishwasher we can use after washing by hand for most of our 4 1/2 years of marriage. Yet there's been a rather large pile of dishes overflowing our sink (and counters) for the past week. I have no excuse.
I'm reminded of our first year of marriage while living in the Wymount apartments. We had the cutest little neighbor girls who would come and play almost daily. I'm ashamed to say that on several occasions one of the girls would say, "Aria, your kitchen smells!", while pointing to a huge pile of dirty dishes soaking in the sink.
Sydney and I explored the park behind our house a few days ago. It was one of those gray and foggy days where it feels like early morning all day long. I propped Sydney on stumps, nestled her in leaves, and perched her in the wedges of tree branches. It felt like we were deep in some magical forest, seeing the trees and roots from her level.
It reminded me of the beautiful forests in Germany that we'd explore as a family when I was eleven. Anything that reminds me of Europe makes me happy. Like Sydney's hooded jacket. And seasons. That's a wonderful thing about living in Utah. Now Sydney and I can watch the trees in this park change in every season, and it will be a different adventure each time.
1. DON'T go to a hair school that just opened up 5 months ago, no matter how cheap or close to your house it is.
2. DON'T decide on a whim, while in the salon chair and looking through magazines, to try a new look.
3. DON'T get bangs, no matter how cute the model looks with them unless a.) you have cute dark hair, or b.) you already look like a model.
4. DON'T be fooled by the hairdresser's "ooh's" and "ahh's" about how great your hair is turning out.
5. DON'T leave a generous tip with lots of compliments when you know you HATE the finished product. You leave feeling even worse about yourself.
***I can't bring myself to even post a picture. If you see a girl walking around everywhere with a big hat and sunglasses, it's probably me.
We were so happy to have Tommy's dad in town for a week. He's always so much fun to have around. And he's also one of the most handy guys on this planet! He went straight to work on our house putting everything back together (installing appliances, doors, doorknobs, light fixtures...the list goes on and on). Thanks to him, our house is all in one piece and looking fabulous!
Sydney loves her Papa
We're all moved in and pretty much all settled. We've gone through every box and found a home for almost everything. And when I say "we", I mean Tommy. He'd organize away while I'd get distracted by all the treasures that have been packed away for so long. I'm very lucky to have Tommy and all his organization talents. It makes moving a breeze.
unpacking and realizing we've collected a LOT of stuff over the past 4 1/2 yrs of marriage!
